We are always thinking of new ideas and things we can add to our offering at Sandgreen and we are now delighted to introduce a very special new addition to our children's play park! Meet our Sandgreen Wendy House!

We have done a lot of work around our park this year creating safe and inviting homes for all of our lovely wildlife - from hedgehog houses, bird and bat boxes, to feeding stations, bug and bee hotels - and lots more.  See our previous blog entry for further details on all we have done this year so far!

We are delighted to share with you all our "Home Sweet Home" Badge!

After taking on the David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous "Home Sweet Home" Challenge this year, we have been very busy around the park maintaining existing habitats; installing throughout the park bird boxes; bat boxes; more bug and bee hotels; feeding stations for birds, squirrels, etc; hedgehog houses; and insect stacks all to help as many animals across our park thrive and provide an area of shelter.

Throughout this season so far we have:

• Limited the cutting of long grass areas to maintain and encourage grassland habitats and bee nesting.
• Greenspaces have been managed in an environmentally friendly way with no fertiliser being used.
• New planter tubs and hanging baskets have been installed on the front and around our Reception building to encourage pollination.
• Bird and bat boxes have been installed around the park.
• Bug and bee hotels have been installed around the park.
• Hedgehog houses have been installed in the park.
• Bird feeding stations have been installed around the park.
• Customers on our park have created their own insect stacks, bird feeding stations, and bug hotels.
• Our wildflower rockery has been reseeded and replanted for this year.
• Our buddleia bank at the side of Reception will be left to flower naturally for as long as possible this year to increase the pollination time.
• We have planted 60 new trees throughout the park.

We are very pleased to report that we have now completed our 2023 mission to plant 60 new trees on our park. 

These little trees will take time to grow up, but are all in place! 

The David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature launched back in 2021 and is a great way for holiday parks to show off their green credentials.

Last year we achieved our “Pollinator Patch” badge.  This year we have taken on the “Home Sweet Home” challenge where we plan to install throughout the park bird boxes; bat boxes; more bug and bee hotels; feeding stations for birds and squirrels; hedgehog houses; and insect stacks to help animals across our park thrive and provide an area of shelter.

So many of you, very kindly, got involved with our nature pledge last year and, if anyone would like to join in with our mission this year, there are plenty of opportunities to do so:

Build your Own Bug Hotel or Insect Stack

Attached is a handy little leaflet with information on how you can make your very own Bug Hotel and Insect Stack – it is easier than you think! For making your insect stack, all you will need is some sticks and twigs and some string! A great, fun activity for our young Sandgreener’s to get involved in!

Bird Feeding Stations

If you fancy turning your hand to make your own bird feeding station at Sandgreen, there is a leaflet attached with easy-to-follow instructions on how to make a “Bird Food Cake” or a recycled bird feeder. Another great activity for the kids!

Sponsor your very own Bird or Bat Box

We have made our own bird boxes and bat boxes and will be placing these throughout the park. If you would like to sponsor a bird or bat box at Sandgreen – please let us know. You can sponsor a box for £15 and you will get your name and pitch number engraved on a plaque on the box.

We will keep you updated on our Pledge for Nature progress throughout the year.

Here at Sandgreen, we do everything we can to have as little environmental impact as possible.  It is important to us that, as a business, we help in any way we can to make the future brighter and take positive steps for the planet.  We are always trying to do more and constantly looking for new ideas.

Back in 2022, we partnered up with Play it Green who employ a 3 Step Solution to Climate Change: REDUCE carbon footprints; REPAIR the planet and rebalance carbon footprints by planting trees; and REGIVE 10% of all revenues to a good cause.

Over and above this, this year we have set a goal to plant 60 new trees at Sandgreen!

We have just received our progress summary from Play it Green showing our achievements so far since partnering with them last summer. 

We are delighted to see that through all our hard work and achievements during 2022, we have reduced our carbon footprint by plating 1,092 trees and donating £42 to Sea Shepherd UK Charity.

As you know, we have been taking part in the David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature this year and accepted the Pollinator Patch Challenge for 2022. 
We are delighted to announce, after lots of hard work throughout the season, we have completed our challenge and earned ourselves our Pollinator Patch badge!

As we continue to be as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible, we are delighted to introduce our brand new fully electric Club Car to Sandgreen Caravan Park.

This is the first in our fleet of electric site vehicles and helps our team get around the park without using diesel or petrol powered vehicles, meaning it reduces vehicle emissions on the park.

The David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature launched last year and represents an opportunity for holiday parks to show off their green credentials. It’s named after the late botanist and environmental campaigner, who worked tirelessly to get people out into the countryside and enjoy nature.

Every year, the initiative will release a series of challenges and ask the parks involved to pick one to focus their efforts on.  This year, we have chosen to accept the “Pollinator Patch” challenge where we need to create areas where bees, butterflies, and other insects can get food.  We will be working with this throughout the 2022 season.

So far this year we have: planted some beautiful hanging baskets around the front of our office with bee-friendly and pollinating plants; installed a Bug Hotel in the Buddleia bed next to the reception building; created a wildflower rockery area next to the sales showground as a place where bees, butterflies and other insects can get plenty of food; planted a lovely little Willow tree across from the office to help us with our green credentials; maintained long grassy areas to provide a food source for bees and insects and encourage pollination; maintained the Buddleia bank at the side of the office allowing it to grow and flower naturally throughout the year to allow as much time for butterflies and other insects to pollinate. 

We will be creating a "Sandgreen Nature Trail Bingo" card for the children, and adults, of Sandgreen to take part in over the summer holidays. This is a great, fun way for the children to get involved in our Pollinator Patch work and learn, recognise and appreciate the many different species and habitats we have at Sandgreen Caravan Park.

Sandgreen Sanctuaries – we would love for our customers to create their own little sanctuary for bees, butterflies, and insects to get food throughout the year. This could be done by planting up some pots on your deck with pollinating plants, or, you could buy or build your very own “Bug Hotel” to go on your decking.  We have had many customers create their own bug hotels at Sandgreen this year, which is great.
