Sandgreen Caravan Park

Our Story

Sandgreen Caravan Park is a holiday park on the coast of southwest Scotland with a mix of static caravans and lodges. Sandgreen is a very natural park with its own private beach on the Fleet Bay estuary and is situated on gentle sloping land that extends to 42.20 acres.

The land at Sandgreen has been owned by the same family for decades - follow our timeline below.

1800s

Before the park was established, the land was used primarily for pastoral farming.

1910s

The land was taken out of the farm prior to the 1914 War with a view to develop.

1934

Plans were submitted for the land to be developed into a championship golf course and LMS Railway were interested in building a hotel on the land, however, following their building of Leeds Station Hotel, nothing came of this.

circa 1950

A warden’s house and shop were built at Sandgreen.

1947

Despite touring caravans regularly visited Sandgreen prior to the 1939 War, planning permission was initially opposed by the County Council. The case was later presented by the Chairman of the Scottish Land Court and President of the Scottish Lands Tribunal where it was settled and proved that Sandgreen had been an informal site pre- 1947.

1964

The Crown Commissioners confirmed Sandgreen owned the foreshore.

2003

Sandgreen moved from a touring caravan park to a static and lodge park where planning permission was granted for 260 holiday homes.

2004

In 2004, the Sandgreen Reception building as you know it today was built.

circa 2007

Between 2003 and 2007, Sandgreen evolved with the times - modern holiday caravans were sited across the park, extending the holiday park gradually over time.  Around 2007, the first holiday lodge was introduced and sited on Sandgreen.

circa 2010

Further progression into holiday lodges being sited on Sandgreen came next by creating the "Double Bay" development.  This was an exclusive development of only four holiday lodges.

2019

Our Reception Building underwent a make-over and extension works began to reconfigure the main office building, and add a new extension to the side and rear of the building....COVID then put a halt to all building works!

2019/2020

A shock to us all, COVID-19 arrived and our worlds were changed overnight.

On 23rd March 2020, with a heavy heart, discussions were had and the decision was made - we needed to close as a business and as a holiday park, as the world was thrust into a lockdown the very next morning.

An extremely trying and sad time for everyone, but Sandgreen and all of our team remained positive, safe, and healthy.

Although a lot of changes had to be made to the way in which we operated and ran our holiday park, to protect our team and our customers, we were delighted to open our doors again, even if to a somewhat limited and restricted customer base (it was a postcode lottery for a little while!), on 24th July 2020.

2020

Our office extension work was finally completed!

The extension offered customers a brand new Customer Laundry, a customer washroom facility, and a library.

2021

A brand new children's play park was installed at Sandgreen

2024

During 2024, a brand new Hire Fleet development was created at Sandgreen - "Boreland View".  In total, across the 2024 season, we introduce five brand new holiday caravans situated in a prime elevated location at the top of the park offering breathtaking views of the stunning Galloway scenery.

2026

Another new development for Sandgreen, this year we are currently in the middle of developing a new holiday caravan area - "Sunrise Corner".  This area has planning for up to five holiday caravans and as it's names suggests, is positioned to ensure you catch the gorgeous Sandgreen sunrise each morning.   As this is currently "in-progress" - watch this space...!
