Sandgreen Caravan Park is Supporting Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere

We are delighted to share that we are now proud supporters of Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere, and fully support the principles of the Biosphere Charter.

The Biosphere Charter signifies that Sandgreen Caravan Park pledges to support the following six principles:

  • Help to conserve the natural resources of the Biosphere
  • Support the economy to benefit people and nature
  • Promote cultural heritage and local products
  • Contribute to the health and wellbeing of the community
  • Develop knowledge, understanding and promote research
  • Raise awareness of the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere

As a Proud Supporter, we recognise the value that the UNESCO Biosphere designation brings to people and nature, and we work hard to make southwest Scotland a great place to holiday, live, work and play.  We hope our commitment and energy inspires others to explore the Biosphere – to try new activities, visit places they haven’t seen before, and to learn more about our natural and cultural heritage.

A little more about Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere (GSA) and what they do:

The Galloway & Southern Ayrshire Biosphere Partnership is a non-profit organisation working across the UNESCO region, creating and facilitating projects that support conservation, education, climate resilience, and a sustainable local economy. They collaborate with multi-sector partners in initiatives that benefit people and nature alike.

The Galloway & Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere covers more than 9,700km² of southwest Scotland, is home to more than 100,000 people, and includes outstanding and rare habitats which are home to some of Scotland’s most iconic wildlife. These landscapes stretch from coast to mountain, meeting woodland, grassland, farmland and more in between. Its geographical boundary was defined in 2012 based on catchments of the rivers flowing out of the Galloway Hills, and extended to include the marine environment in 2023.  Every UNESCO Biosphere is a centre for learning and research, and for testing solutions to some of the most critical challenges of our time.

The Core Area of any UNESCO Biosphere is the region of highest conservation value; in Galloway and Southern Ayrshire, these are the wetlands at Silver Flowe, and the National Nature Reserve (NNR) at Cairnsmore of Fleet. The GSA Biosphere’s work in the Core Areas is focused on research and the protection of species, habitats, landscapes and ecosystems.

The UNESCO Biosphere is part of Scotland’s rural southwest, where the land and its uses remain integral to everyday life. The Biosphere is home to historic industries such as farming, fishing and forestry; a variety of micro-businesses and SMEs; and communities that range in size from tiny hamlets to small towns.

Right across Galloway and Southern Ayrshire the GSA Biosphere Partnership celebrates positive cultural values and identity, helping people learn more about where they live and better understand the heritage we share.

The GSA Biosphere Partnership share knowledge, experience and ideas in pursuit of a better future for all.

We are delighted to share some fantastic news with you—Sandgreen Caravan Park has been named “Caravan Park of the Year” by the Prestige Awards!

This is a significant achievement for us, and we couldn’t be prouder to receive this accolade.

The Prestige Awards celebrate the very best in business, shining a spotlight on those who consistently deliver exceptional products and services to both locals and visitors. Each year, readers of Prestige are invited to nominate businesses that they believe have gone above and beyond, demonstrating excellence in their field. These nominations are then carefully reviewed, and the most deserving businesses are shortlisted for the award.

When we were nominated, we were asked to showcase what makes Sandgreen so special, from our outstanding customer feedback to our dedication to providing an unforgettable experience for everyone who visits. The judges examined key factors such as service excellence, innovation, value for money, ethical practices, and most importantly, consistency in delivering quality experiences.

What the Judges Had to Say:

“Tucked behind a sweeping curve of private sandy beach, we were particularly impressed by the idyllic, peaceful and secure location for relaxation and recreation.  Their ethos revolves around spacious pitches, natural surroundings and a relaxed atmosphere, ensuring Sandgreen remains a special place for all its guests.  Furthermore, Sandgreen’s commitment to preserving its natural and unspoiled environment allows guests to immerse themselves in the beauty of Scotland’s National Scenic Areas, surrounded by wildlife and serene landscapes.”

Their kind words are a testament to the hard work and dedication that our entire team puts in every single day at Sandgreen, our goal has always been to create a place where guests can truly unwind, reconnect with nature, and make lasting memories. This award reaffirms that commitment, and we are beyond thrilled that our efforts have been recognised.

A Huge Thank You!

Of course, none of this would have been possible without you, our wonderful guests. Whether you’ve been visiting Sandgreen for years or are a first-time guest, your support and feedback are what helps us continually improve and grow. We’re also incredibly grateful to our amazing team, whose passion and dedication are the heartbeat of Sandgreen. Together, we’ve built a special community, and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come.  We are so proud to have been recognised with this prestigious award, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Sandgreen Caravan Park—your award-winning getaway—in the near future.

Once again, thank you for being part of the Sandgreen family and helping us become “Caravan Park of the Year”!

We’re Passionate About Pets

We love pets, so your pets are always welcome!

All of our team members are pet owners, and we know how much of an important part of the family your pets are.  That’s why at Sandgreen, we make your pets just as welcome as you!  We offer ample dog waste bins throughout the park, we have amazing dog walks around Sandgreen and the local area, we have a dog water station outside our Reception, and even dedicated doggy parking areas at our Play Park, making sure the whole family can enjoy an afternoon at the Park without issue.

A Warm Community

We love our great owner community on the park. We also love our local community and try to support local businesses and charities wherever we can.

We have a varied demographic on our park, from retired couples to young families and everything in between.  It won’t take you long to get to know your neighbours at Sandgreen and we all help each other out when needed.  Our park community brings a wealth of people together from all over the country and creates friendships that extend out with holidays at Sandgreen.

It is important to us that our team members are also part of our park community with everyone knowing our names and faces, and stopping for a chat when we are out and about on the park.

On Your Doorstep

Sandgreen is a beautiful, family-owned park sitting on its own private sandy beach on the Solway Coast with the nearest town being Gatehouse of Fleet. Sandgreen is the ideal place for families to make special memories. From good old-fashioned playing on the beach, building sandcastles and rock pooling, to the many kid’s activity centres just a short drive from the park, there is ample for kids to enjoy. Adults can wander around the many varied market and harbour towns enjoying the independent shops and sampling some of Scotland’s best produce in the local cafes and restaurants.

Sandgreen is also a great base if you enjoy all things outdoors. We are just a short journey to several of the 7Stanes mountain bike centres and we are surrounded by many stunning lochs and hillwalking attractions including Cairnsmore of Fleet, Dow Craig Hill, Culcaigrie Loch and Loch Whinyeon. Of course, we have our own private beach if you prefer water sports.

Within the surrounding local area, we are very lucky to have several tourist towns and villages offering something for everyone to enjoy while holidaying at Sandgreen.  Whether arts, crafts and museums are your thing, or you enjoy golf, birdwatching, historical buildings and history, or simply enjoying some good food – Dumfries and Galloway is a little gem that can offer this and much much more.

No Luggage Allowance

Unlike holidaying abroad – we may not be able to guarantee the weather – but we can guarantee a beautiful location which you can easily reach by car and the best part – no luggage allowance, security or passport checks to endure!

One of the best parts of owning a holiday home at Sandgreen is you can enjoy spur of the moment escapes, at the drop of a hat, whenever you fancy!  Had a rather taxing week at work?  Clock out on a Friday evening and you can be in your Happy Place at Sandgreen within a few hours and enjoy a stress free, relaxing weekend to revive yourself, ready for a busy Monday morning at work.  Pack a bag with what you need, and the rest is waiting for you here.  Our customers quite often have items, clothing, etc they leave in their holiday home here to use when they holiday to reduce, even further, any small amount of packing you may need to do.

Stunning Beach

Our beach at Sandgreen is one of the best in the region.  Our sandy beach is kept clean, is very flat, and has a gradual shore meaning there are no big drop offs when you are enjoying a swim in the sea and you can still enjoy a paddle in water even when the tide is not in, if you are happy to walk out a little.

Our beach is a hive of activity in the summer with customers enjoying swimming, sailing, paddleboarding, canoeing and kayaking.  As we have a range of different activities happening on our beach at the one time, for everyone’s safety, our beach is split into three lanes; one for motorboats; one for sailing, canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding; and one for swimming only.

If you are not into water sports, our beach still has more than enough to offer you!  Grab a beach towel, a good book and a picnic and wile away the hours relaxing, listening to the waves lap up onto the shore.

For our four-legged friends, our beach is a dog’s heaven!  Whether it be finding a stick or driftwood, to digging their best hole yet or having a swim or paddle in the sea, our doggy customers highly recommend Sandgreen beach!  We do ask that dogs are kept on the lead through the day to protect everyone else on the beach, and also to protect your dog, however, you can let your dog off the lead for a good run around the beach between the hours of 9pm and 8am.

Relax & Unwind

Sandgreen is a very special holiday park.  Where we do not offer any evening entertainment, club houses, or bars; our customers come here for peace, quiet and to truly relax.

The only noisy neighbours you may have on an occasion is an owl, pheasant, badger or fox.

Sandgreen is the place you come to escape the ordinary life, switch off from work or home worries or stresses, and take time for and look after yourself.

The children who come to Sandgreen are shown a different life and social life to sitting in their bedrooms on games consoles, or chatting with friends on social media; they come and meet new friends from all over the country, enjoy good old fashioned kids’ fun.  Whether that be building sandcastles, playing at the park, or having races on their bicycles, Sandgreen is the place to take it all back to basics and enjoy the “good old life”.
